COMPOSITE STEEL BEAM WITH WEB OPENING
To find out whether one can place an opening in the web of a composite steel beam, use cpbmwopn.exe in conjunction with EXTDAISC.doc and brun45.exe.

The "EXTDAISC.doc" file allows you to access the required beam properties by using their standard (AISC) W designations. YOU MUST USE IT.

The AISC Load & Resistance Factor Design is used.

  • Opening can be rectangular or circular and can be eccentric to beam mid-depth.
  • Factored moment and shear at location of opening must be input.
  • Reinforcement around opening (if required) is computed.
  • Other structural details are determined.
